Before deciding on a particular fat loss program to help you lose weight and body fat, you need to understand how the actual program will help you we lose those extra inches. As you know, your body weight is determined by how many calories you consume versus the number of calories you actually burn. Keeping this is mind, if you find a weight loss program that tells you that you don’t have to watch what you eat and that you can sit on the couch all day eating donuts while losing weight, there is a problem. There are many programs out there that can be more harmful than good, so when you actually consider one make sure that you look for legitimate reviews that are available along with the things they promise. That being said, there are three major types of fat loss programs to consider. Knowing the best one for you is not really important to losing those extra pounds but it can actually help you figure out decide which is the better route for you to help to improve your health.

Home fat loss programs; these are the diets and fat loss programs you attempt on your own or with the help of your close friends and family. This includes the simple counting of calories coupled with those trips to the gym (whether doing aerobic or weight bearing exercises) as well as any limitations or expectations you set for yourself. This category does include fitness videos but does not include any video that all makes dietary suggestions.

Structured home programs; these are the kinds of programs most of us utilize when we do get serious. These programs tell you what foods you can eat, quantities and for how long. The Special K challenge is the perfect example of these kinds of diets, as is the Slim Fast diet. Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig weight loss programs fall in this category, though on the far side of the spectrum. You can typically tell these kinds of diets apart from any other by the food that you buy. It is more catered to what’s in the package or the name it represents. Remember that even when you are watching what you eat, you do need a certain amount of variety to maintain good health. This means if you’re on a diet plan that requires you to eat nothing but peanut butter and ketchup packets you’re probably going to suffer from loss of the key vitamins and minerals you are neglecting.

Clinical programs; these programs are hardcore diet plans, requiring you to go into a clinic and to measure you, weigh you, conduct blood checks, telling you what you can afford to cut from your diet and how quickly. Depending on your budget and the program selected, you can either stay in most clinics or they’ll send you home with a list of do’s and don’ts. Clinical programs tend provide you with expert help from qualified therapists, trainers, doctors and dieticians and are most popular among individuals who need to lose a lot of weight for a particular reason (health reasons or special occasions such as weddings).
